Has it already been a month since I last wrote? How time flies! I was enjoying the moment all the time that I wasn't really in front of a computer or phone for that long! We actually came back from our trip on 19th October. It was a really great experience cycling Europe. We went to Liechtenstein after spending almost a week in Switzerland.
|
We then continued to Austria (Bludenz) and visited the Milka factory! We also went around lots of lakes and rivers, and last but not least, we went to the Silvretta Alps! 2017 was the year that I saw snow for the first time in my life and this year, I get to be in the Alps and see a glacier! |

It has been a long time since I last wrote anything about the trip. We are enjoying too much, the views are unbelievable. When we see something, I always see something and think that it only exists in movies, but here it is in front of our eyes and we are speechless!
We after the last update, we moved to another city in France just 3 kms from the Swiss border so we can cross the "border" like a boss. We stopped in a supermarket to stock up on food before crossing Switzerland (Switzerland is very expensive!). I was preparing my passport for the stamp, but lo and behold, the "border" is just a sign "Welcome to Switzerland", no people or anything. and everybody was just crossing with bikes, walking or by car, the border is also really close to the cities so it's more like you're just changing different towns.
We went around Basel a little bit and "crossed" to Germany again. We were following the Rhein river that is on one side Germany and one side Switzerland. We spent around 3 more days in Germany, mostly because of the weather, if it's raining or bad weather is coming, we stay put.
When the weather is good again, we headed to Switzerland and decided to go and spend some time in Zurich. Switzerland has really nice landscapes, every couple of kilometers we make breaks just to look at the view and take it all in. There are fields, mountains and beautiful scenery everywhere!

We finally arrived in Zurich, we went around the city, our host wanted to swim in the lake so on a Sunday, we went on the center of the city and jumped on the lake! We went around the old town, get to experience their fancy tram stations. It was also a really good break for rest, we even had time to watch Netflix at night. The day before we leave Zurich, we went to the public park to just hangout and feel the city. It is a really small city, people are chill and relaxed and are very polite. We are supposed to cross to Liechtenstein the next day, but we found a really amazing camping spot and couldn't resist! We ended up staying in our camp for 2 nights! We had a really nice view of Lake Walenstadt. (G even went in and swam a bit in the lake!) |
After 2 great days there, we finally decided to cross to G's first new country, Liechtenstein, yay for him! we went around the city (we arrived on Sunday so everything's closed), but the buildings and even the random decorations on the streets are unreal! they have random uniquely shaped marbles as chairs just around the town square, they also have a lot of sculptures around. We were looking for a place to stay in preparation of the rain late at night and tomorrow's rain. We then met a now friend that invited us to her house to stay there and be safe from the rain! Her house has a really nice view of the city below and a really nice feel to it. She also helped us a lot not just opening her house to complete strangers but also for warm shower, really good food and really warm and good company. |

We finally made it to Mulhouse, the last town in France, before crossing to Switzerland! Today's ride is 60 easy kms just because it was mostly downhill. All those uphills paid off, yay! Tour de France has really come to and end and we will really be doing Eurovelo :)
We took the train from Nevers to Besançon. It was 280 kms by bikes and would probably take us 7 days, but with the train, it took only 3 hours!
Lots of people here are cycling and it is very normal to have bikes in trains. Also they have a lot of space in the trains (yes, even in Paris!) that you can always bring your bike or scooter. On the cycling road, we also see a lot of people who cycle because they want to and not just to travel. Almost the whole of France has a designated cycling road without cars and motorbikes! Some of you also asked what are the bags we are carrying, the red one is our air mattress (double) , the green one is a (3 person) tent, and the blue bag is our kitchen. The air mattress is a real luxury but with a lot of cycling in front of us, we have to make sure that we sleep really comfortable to have energy the next day! We do a lot of camping but sometimes we do Couchsurfing, meeting a lot of interesting people hosting us and receiving a lot of kindness from people we meet for the first time. It's really nice to experience this warmth, imagine like visiting a place for the first time but you have family there where you can stay. They can guide you on what things to do in their city plus you have good time talking and sharing experiences. |
So far so good! We are 21 days on the road, travelling to the unknown. Never knowing where we will be at the end of the day, but we are happy and always looking forward to what will be our next experience. From where to camp and where to go the next day, we only have a general plan on moving towards the next country, but all the camping and stops to eat are random, and since both of us have never been in these exact places before, everything is a brand new adventure!

2 weeks in the trip and we are now in Nevers, France. We realized that France is a country full of beautiful parks and lots of greens (thus lots of breaks too!) Eurovelo roads are amazing to go through, there are no cars or motorbikes, and it's a superhighway for cyclists!

Some of you asked how and where we eat, this is the reality behind our breaks (HAHA) we have a full "kitchen", stoves, pans and pots. We go to a supermarket, get all the things we need, when we are full stocked we have enough food for 3 days, including breakfast (baguettes!) dinner and a mid day snack. When we are on our bikes, we only have 7 bags in total, including the tent, air mattress and kitchen, but when we stop to eat, all our things are everywhere! One thing we always have with us is olive oil, perfect for bread and for cooking!

First 10 days in the trip
End of August.. Getting ready
We are flying on the 27th of August for the first leg of flights until Paris where we will start our cycling journey. Our flight to cycle came very fast on us and we are ery excited on what is to come. See you on the road guys!
Atlantic–Black Sea, is one of our most popular routes and it’s little wonder why: coasts, rivers, castles, top-class infrastructure and a nice flat topography make the about 4,400 km long route every cycle tourists’ dream journey. The famous sections along the Loire and the Danube Rivers are known to cycle tourists around the world, and for good reason. Come and see what all the fuss is about! - from eurovelo.com
After months of travelling only in Greece, this is our first overseas trip together!
On September 2018, we will cycle from Paris to Bucharest (hopefully). We hosted a couple from Ukraine cycling around Europe and it got us interested, so much so that we started planning it right away! We are very excited on the adventure that awaits us in the road!
We wanted to try something that we both have never done before. Touring with bikes, and where to trust our bikes and our life journey than to KTM, (we are KTM lovers).
We will start this journey in Paris until where we can in Eurovelo route. We are very excited for this journey, we are looking forward to all the people we will meet and learn from in the road. See you guys in September!
