We're back in Santorini for 2019! We spent 2 days last December 2018, this time around we spent 7 whole days just exploring the island.
There are still not a lot of tourists in the island but there is already a lot of traffic from locals working/will work in Santorini. We saw a lot of people building and renovating villas, businesses are hiring staff, there is a job opportunity everywhere you see. It's very nice to see that Santorini, being the ultimate summer destination, is not only good for the tourists but it's also beneficial to the locals. This is also a great opportunity of combining work and travel ;) We had a lot of sunny days - more time for activities - and a surprise Catamaran tour of Santorini! (Fun Fact: Santorini is the first destination we went twice to!)
Christos and Christos (yes, they have the same name!) are cool guys and experts on handling their boat!
They really love the sea and you can see it in their eyes :) After the amazing boat ride, they also invited us to eat and party a bit, the captain was very happy and in the celebration mood because his wife just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl!

Another must see attraction is the Santorini Akrotiri Lighthouse. One of the oldest lighthouses in Greece, constructed in 1892, it is in the far southwest of the island. The lighthouse is situated on rocky cliffs and has an amazing view over the Aegean Sea. Only Greek navy personnel are allowed inside the lighthouse, but everybody is welcome to see and explore the rocky cliffs where you have an amazing view of the sea and an even better one if you're there for sunset.

The next day was also sunny! (Weather forecast was cloudy with rain) so we went to a church called Panagia Katefiani. It's built high above the beach of Perissa on the Rock of Mesa Vouno. You can get here by a very quick 10 minute hike. Also on the same path is Ancient Thera (inhabited 9th century BC until 726 AD) which is a must see for people visiting the island!
On another sunny day, we visited this beach that is empty just because of the hard winter that damaged and destroyed the road and going here now is not easy, (plus it's still cold!) but we are sure that before the season starts, the road will be fixed and ready to welcome people from all over the world.
No Santorini visit will be complete without passing through and walking around Oia, and this time around more shops are operating and even more are under renovations to be ready for summer. You have to visit Atlantis Books, (National Geographic's top 1 bookstore in 2016 and featured in their Destinations of a Lifetime of the same year), there's still something about reading a physical book <3
Check out the 360 pano of Skaros rock. You can take a cable car from here (Imerovigli) to the old port.
Days passed by so quickly in our stay in Santorini, we visited new places and the next time we go there, we will visit more! It's a small island, but there's a lot of things to do there!
Just before we head to the airport, we took some more photos, some more memories to remind us to return to Santorini soon. ![]() You need a means of transport (may it be a motorbike, ATV or a car) in Santorini otherwise exploring the island will be a bit more challenging. Special thanks to Giwrgos of Avis Santorini car rental, for always helping us explore more.
